The B1 level course is an intensive learning program for intermediate students. The B1 level is taught using a task-based methodology. This methodology involves the exclusive use of the foreign language in class and emphasizes communicative skills, creating a highly interactive classroom environment where the foreign language is contextualized, and the focus is placed both on its meaning and linguistic structures.

Course Goals and Objectives

By the end of your engagement at the appropriate level, you will be able to:

  • Speak very well to describe, narrate, ask, and answer questions in the past and future tense about everyday topics, including personal interests or activities, likes and dislikes, the environment, university studies, and travel.
  • Understand spoken language with sufficient skills to grasp main ideas and some supporting details in short interactions—whether direct or recorded—related to topics such as weather, travel, interests and hobbies, relationships, and past experiences.
  • Read and understand the main idea and supporting details in both edited and unedited materials (including long stories, intermediate-level poetry, announcements, tourist brochures, and travel information) in relation to the given context.
  • Write sentences, paragraphs, and essays on familiar topics, take notes, and compose letters and messages related to personal interests and practical needs.
  • Identify similarities and differences between the cultures presented in the course, as well as key distinctions between the foreign culture and your own. Develop an awareness of the risks of stereotyping and the complexities of cultural issues.
  • Expand your use of the foreign language beyond the classroom by reading books and more, watching films and TV programs, listening to online radio or music, and exchanging messages or emails with a close friend or colleague, etc.
